PROCUREMENT FOUNDATION BUILT

New operating model, policy, governance and category frameworks established

BACKGROUND

A fast-growing global insurance and reinsurance group had expanded rapidly through acquisition but lacked the procurement infrastructure required to manage third-party spend effectively.

With limited visibility, fragmented data and inconsistent processes across more than 50 locations, the business could not quantify spend accurately or identify value opportunities.

4C was engaged to help establish the foundations of a scalable procurement function, supported by Anvil Analytical’s data and analytics capability.

the challenge

Procurement capability had not kept pace with business growth. There was no formal operating model, supplier governance, or consistent approach to managing third-party spend.

The organisation lacked a single view of its global cost base, meaning procurement had limited influence, and private equity investors had limited insight into value-creation potential.

With pressure rising from market conditions and investor expectations, the business needed stronger commercial control, clearer visibility, and a scalable model for capability and cost optimisation.

SOLUTION

FourCentric group members, 4C and Anvil Analytical, worked in partnership to deliver a programme focused on four key areas:

1. Diagnostic & opportunity assessment

  • Consolidated fragmented financial data into a global spend view

  • Delivered full spend cube using Anvil’s AI-enabled analytics platform

  • Benchmarked procurement maturity against leading practice

  • Identified savings opportunities across travel, technology, professional services and FM

2. Procurement optimisation programme

  • Designed a procurement vision and three-year roadmap

  • Introduced policies, governance and category playbooks

  • Built capability through training and structured role expectations

  • Established savings pipeline and strategic supplier management approach

3. Cost delivery & technology enablement

  • Delivered cost optimisation projects, including a global travel management initiative

  • Embedded Anvil’s Spend, Carbon and Contract Analytics to improve data quality

  • Enabled continuous opportunity tracking and sustainability reporting

4. Embedding capability for long-term impact

  • Trained client teams to refresh analytics monthly

  • Provided leadership advisory across IT and corporate services

  • Strengthened commercial governance to enable ongoing control and resilience
